Black History Month Celebration
The entries must be sent to iavaeducate@iava.us by February 22, 2021
All the topics to be presented have to be relevant to Black History and can be verified.
The final entries will be displayed to the wider audience on February 27 2021 after judging via all social media channels available to IAVA.
The judge’s decision will be final.
All eligible entries received during the Contest submission period will be owned and showcased by IAVA.
All prizes are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash. The winner must accept the prize as presented by IAVA.
Winners are required to present valid identification as described on the entry to retrieve the prize.
All decisions of IAVA management regarding the contest are final.
IAVA reserves the right to alter the contest rules and/or contest date at any time.
IAVA reserves the right to disqualify any contestant in the event that contest rules have been violated. By participating in the contest, all Members, contestants, participants, and winners acknowledge and comply with the listed rules above.
The winners of the competition will be emailed their results on February 27, 2021.Details of the prize distribution will be emailed to the winners via email on February 27, 2021.
- Under 5 years :
- The family must be current 2021 IAVA members. Membership will be verified.
- A coloring paper will be emailed to parents. Please print and color it and scan it back to IAVA for judging (no photographs of finished paper).
- The final picture to be scanned and sent to IAVA for judging by February 22, 2021. (NO picture (only scanned copy) will be accepted for judging)
- Please do not write the name of the child on the front of the paper that will be sent for judging.Name can be submitted in the email.
- Elementary School Students (Grades 1 through 5)

- The family must be current 2021 IAVA members. Membership will be verified.
- Kids to research and prepare a shoebox diorama. The topic has to be relevant to Black History. Please list the relevant link/book/information on which the diorama is based in the application.
- No name of the child is to be visible for ease of judging. The name of the student can be sent with the email with the video/photos of the diorama.

- Middle School students (Grades 6 to 8th)

- The family must be current 2021 IAVA members. Membership will be verified.
- The student researches a person of African descent and speaks about the person for 5 mins.
- Please send us the name of the person being researched with the video so that the information can be verified.
- Students dress up in the costume/dress of the said person.
- Please do not mention the name of the student in the video. It can be sent in an email with the video attachment.
- High School Student (Grades 9 to 12).
- The family must be current 2021 IAVA members. Membership will be verified.
- The student to research and write a 500-word essay on a person of African descent which can be verified.
- Please do not write the name of the student on the paper. The student’s name can be sent in the email with the essay.
